The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service. Relay for Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of your American Cancer Society. During the event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times. Relay for Life of Cass County will hold its annual even at the Atlanta High School Football stadium on March 23, beginning at 6pm. The American Cancer Society Relay for Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported and that one day cancer will be eliminated.

Take a walk down memory lane with CPAC and Music City Texas in their first collaborative presentation. "A Tribute to the Greatest Gneration" to be held Saturday, December 10 at the MCT Theater. Providing the best in swing dance music will be The Red River Jazz Band, a 20 piece band that promises to be a big hit with young and old alike. World War II era songs such as Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B, In the Mood, Tuxedo Junction, Stardust, All of Me, and many, many other favorite melodies will highlight the evening. Dancing is encouraged, but just listening and reminiscing is certainly alright, too. Sponsors of the event, at press time, include Rocky Branch RV Park and Good Shephard Medical Center in Linden. Other sponsors are being sought. A "USO" look may take over the theater for the evening, even though Christmas decorations will be up at the time. So, start filling up your dance cards, ladies and gents! The doors will open at 6pm; music plays 7pm to 9pm. The concession stand will be open as well. Tickets to the public are $15. CHAMBER ANNOUNCES "A COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS" PARADE
Santa will usher in the holidays on Saturday, December 3, 2011, when he appears in the Christmas parade sponsored by the Linden Area Chamber of Commerce in downtown Linden.
Grand marshals for the parade will be memers of the Linden Volunteer Fire Department. The Boy Scouts of America will act as color guard. Playing traditional Christmas music, the LK High School Band will entertain parade goers.
Special features of the parade include best decorated bike (non-motorized) with a prize of $25. Best float will receive a $100 prize. Santa Claus will talk to children in front of the Tin Star Restaurant after the parade, so parents and grandparents are encouraged to bring cameras to snap their favorite photos.
Booth/Craft spaces are available at no charge (no electricity nor water)

Cass County Firefighters Assn. Benefit “The Bear Creek Fire.” Sponsored by Music City Texas and Linden Masonic Lodge #192. Chili Cook off will be at 8:00 am and the judging will be at 2:00pm. (Entry forms at Music City Texas and East Texas Automotive). Live Music from 6:00 am – 10:00 pm. Hamburger baskets $5, Cake Walk, and much more! All donations will be going to Cass County Firefighters Assn.

The tournament will begin on September 21 at 5:00 pm for Trotline-Jugline Division. A total of 25 fish will be weighed per team. Weigh - in for this division will be September 22-24 by 10:00 am at the Rocky Point Campground. Participants must be in weigh in line by 10:00 am Saturday for final weigh- in in the Trotline- Jugline Division.
Rod and Reel Division will be Saturday Sept. 21 6:00am- 3:00pm. A total of 50 fish per team will be weighed in. Participants must be in weigh- in line by 3:00pm at the Rocky Point Campground. We prefer that the fish from both divisions be alive, but may be kept on ice. Trophies will be awarded in both Divisions for Big Fish. Tournament will be held regardless of weather and contestants may launch from any part of the lake, and all fish must be caught out of Lake Wright Patman. You may have a 3rd person on the team as long as they are over the age 65 or under the age of 16.
Entry fee is $50 per team and this enters you in both divisions. There will be a Hamburger Supper Frieday at 5:00pm and a Fish Fry SAturday at 5:00pm for all participants and the public. Donations will be accepted at this time.
